Grey Levels - indicate how the scanner would interpret your black and white image.

Colour Depth - determines how accurately a scanner can differentiate between colour shades and hues. Measured in bits, the higher number of bits, the more detail the scanner can recognize between colours.

Flatbed Scanner - a scanner with a glass plate like that of photocopier machine. Commonly used, this is best for scanning regular sized documents and photos. The document to be scanned is placed face down and the scan head moves below.

Resolution - The scanner determines how many distinct spots on the original document can actually be scanned - the higher the resolution, the sharper the scanned image will be. |
